UNICEF: Education a Major Casualty of Yemen’s War

Geneva, Switzerland, September 16, 2018 – The school year in Yemen is officially underway. But, the U.N. children’s fund reports the country’s ongoing civil war is keeping millions of children out of the classroom.

More than three years of fighting between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels is having a devastating impact on children’s health and well-being. Keeping Schools Open in Yemen

Yemen, September 1, 2017 – The salaries of Yemeni teachers stopped nearly a year ago, but they continue to educate their students. Sawsan al-Refaei reports.

Women in Technology Program – Story of Strong Yemeni Woman (video in Arabic)

Ibb, Yeman, March 28, 2012 – Mahliah Mohammed, 45 is a Women in Technology (WIT) participant from Ibb in Yareem province, Yemen. She is married with 7 kids (4 girls & 3 boys). Mahliah got married when she finished 6th grade. Her husband’s family didn’t allow her to finish school because they believe that education or work is not for women. They kept her in the house doing house work and they also started looking for husbands for her daughters so that they don’t continue their education.
